Back in April I started a blog series featuring our data collectors from around the country. For the next several blogs I write, I will highlight another collector. I am excited because this will give us the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about the people we work with every week but never see, and to put a fac
This month, my blog features our Chicago area collector, Peter:
Q: How long have you been working with gap?
A: I have been collecting for gap for a little over 4 years.
Q: How did you get involved with gap?
A: I wanted to find something part time with flexible hours. I replied to an ad on craigslist and the position at gap fit the bill. I had past experience dealing with some of the retail accounts such as Best Buy, Target, and the now closed Circuit City when I worked for the Warner Music Group so it seemed of interest to me.
Q: What is your favorite part of the job?
A: The flexibility of time is of great value to me. It allows me to continue with my other endeavors which are sporadic in producing income and it also fills some idle time.
Q: What is your favorite product category to collect and why?
A: Best Buy cameras are up there as a favorite because the “crumb trail”* seems to work well, so even though the product count is larger than at other stores the collection process is relatively seamless. It’s almost like a game to see if they have changed the plan-o-gram.
(*Bloggers note: The crumb trail is how we list products in the app based off of the exact order they were collected during the previous collection of the same category and store, by the same collector. This makes future collections easier as the product list in the app matches up to the order in which the products are on the shelves, if the store has not changed its product arrangement.)
Q: What is your favorite store to visit and why?
A: Best Buy because of the reasons above, and Costco is also fun, especially when all the samples are being handed out!
Q: What is something that you’ve learned about retail and consumer electronics through working with gap?
A: I’ve learned that it seems as though most of the Apple products are the same price everywhere, with very few exceptions.
Q: Can you share something interesting about yourself: Hobbies? Family? Other Job? Kids? Pets? Anything!
A: I sell and market both residential and commercial Real Estate (my website is www.peterknitch.com). I also do pricing opinions on properties for various banks. I enjoy traveling, dining out, and taking walks with my wife of 18 years. I have 2 adult sons that we take great pleasure in spending time with. We also have a few “grand-dogs”. The newest addition is Bear (see photo) who ate my blackberry which helped me transition to an iphone. I also continue to stay involved in the entertainment media industry and enjoy both old and new movies & music.

We are lucky to have Peter on board here at gap intelligence, and it’s been really great getting to know more about him as a person!
Stay tuned for future features on our other data collectors.
