Name?
Jason Barry
How did you get to gap intelligence?
Originally from Orange County, I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with both a degree in Finance and a desire not to move north to San Francisco along with most of my peers. Like the NFL team closest to my hometown, I was faced with the difficult decision to move to either Los Angeles or San Diego. However, unlike the Chargers I grew up with, I chose to end up in the greatest city in the world. From there I decided that it was a priority to work alongside people with values and priorities similar to my own, and the rest is history.
What values lead you?
Every day I try to incorporate the values of growth and gratitude into my life. If you were to better yourself by just 1% every day for a year, compounding would have you finish the year 3,778% better than when you started. I like to think that if I aspire to this goal and fail miserably that I still would have had a pretty great year. Combining this mindset with a gratitude for all the little things that are so often taken for granted lets me find a healthy balance where I can produce great work and enjoy doing it every day.
What skills are you bringing to gap intelligence and what skills are you excited to learn?
I have both a passion for learning and a strong desire to share what I learn with others. As a new employee, I take pride in being coachable and making my work my own. I’m as excited to pass on a trick that I’ve learned as I am to receive that advice myself. I am most excited to develop my communication skills, both verbal and written. I would love to improve in all aspects of communication, from speaking with clients about their goals to working with gappers and making those goals a reality.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be, why, and what would you do with it?
The superpower that I would most enjoy would be the ability to control time. Although I have seen far too many sci-fi movies to ever abuse my power and drastically alter any events, I would love the ability to binge watch an entire season of Game of Thrones while drinking my morning coffee.
What’s the quirkiest thing about you that you’re willing to admit?
I am a gigantic puzzle nerd. I love doing crosswords, Sudoku, Rubik’s Cubes, and everything in between.
What is your favorite thing to do in San Diego?
My favorite weekend activity is visiting one of the countless world-class breweries that call San Diego home. I enjoy almost every type of beer under the sun, ranging from the hoppiest of IPAs to the tartest of wild ales. My local favorites include Modern Times, Alesmith, Lost Abbey, and of course, Stone Brewing.
Where would you go in a time machine?
I would go all the way back to the year 2016. When I exit my time machine, I look up and see that Zootopia is playing at the local theater in 15 minutes. I begin walking over to get my ticket when a young man bumps into me because he is staring at his phone while playing the new hit game PokemonGo. When I realize that it was the younger version of myself that had just walked into me I would smile and say just two short words, “…Buy Bitcoin.”
