Name:
Joanna Sullivan
How did you get to gap?
After graduating from San Diego State University, I was pretty lost on where and when to start my career search. All I knew was that I wanted to stay in sunny San Diego and become a part of something significant. Within a few months of soul-searching, I was brought to gap’s website and became pleasantly surprised with how its values and goals aligned with my own. During my first interview, I was overwhelmed with positive vibes and immediately felt like I belonged.
What values lead you and why?
Integrity, determination and gratitude are values I cherish deeply due to the fact that they encompass multiple vital characteristics including honesty, trust, morality, and more. To demonstrate integrity is more than just working hard for our self-satisfaction but continually upholding high moral and ethical standards (regardless of who’s watching) which is necessary in building ourselves personally and professionally. I consistently try to be grateful for everything and everyone that has helped me become the person I am today because it creates a positive environment and gives off a sense of appreciation which will encourage others to show in return. I’ve always believed that people will treat you with more respect if you are humble and appreciative. Furthermore, I practice determination by creating personal/professional goals and consistently setting new ones and not giving up, even after failing multiple times, while rewarding myself when deserved.
What skills are you bringing to gap and what skills are you excited to learn?
Due to my organization skills, I’ve developed excellent time management abilities and attention to detail. I enjoy statistics and analyzing data thus looking forward to learning all the tools and programs we use on a daily basis. I’m also excited to learn all of the relevant formulas on Excel and eventually anything and everything to do with the industries we work in.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be, why, and what would you do with it?
If I had any superpower, it would be “teleportation” so I can travel the world in a timely manner and also skip traffic! I would also somehow find a way to put my superpower to positive use for the world and not for the purpose of receiving profits or monetary rewards.
What’s the quirkiest thing about you that you’re willing to admit?
I am openly obsessed with Donald Duck and just ducks in general. They are adorable, hilarious and kind animals!
What is your favorite thing to do in San Diego and why?
It’s totally cliché but my favorite thing to do in San Diego is go to the beach (GASP)! I appreciate that I can comfortably visit the beach pretty much year-round and not have to deal with over crowdedness. My favorite thing to do is grab a bite to eat in Pacific Beach then lie out in the sun and swim all day (if the water isn’t freezing).
If you were on a desert island and could only bring three things what would you bring?
Well I suppose my phone would not work on a desert island, therefore I would bring: any device which can hold and play all my music wirelessly; my favorite blanket; and if it counts, I would bring my dog but if not, then a picture/video of him will suffice.
